Space Shuttle Columbia Facts:
  • NASA's first space shuttle.
  • On it's last flight disintegrated over Palestine, Texas (February 1st, 2003) during re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere
  • The seven crew lost their life.
  • On February 2, 2004, a living memorial to the STS-107 crew members was dedicated at Arlington National Cemetery, in Arlington County, Virginia.
Crew members on the last flight were:
  • Commander: Rick D. Husband
  • Pilot: William C. McCool
  • Mission Specialist: David M. Brown
  • Mission Specialist: Kalpana Chawla
  • Mission Specialist: Laurel Clark
  • Payload Commander: Michael P. Anderson.
  • Payload Specialist: Ilan Ramon
